***Rules:

Format:
  • Games consist of three 13 minute stop-clock periods, with a three-minute warm-up that will start when the Zam doors close.
  • Game curfews are 1 hour, 15 minutes. In the event that a curfew time with be exceeded, the timekeeper will notify the referee, who will notify the captains, and the game will go to run time. If the game is within 1 goal in the last 2 minutes of the game and under run-time, the game will return to stop-time. The game will also return to stop-time for the last minute of the game regardless of score.
  • Tied round-robin games remain tied at the end of regulation.
  • Winning teams receive 2 points in the standings. Losing teams recieve 0 points. Tying teams receive 1 point each in the standings. Playoff games:
    • The 2 teams with the most points in the standings will go to the championship game.
    • In the playoff game, the team with the most points in the standings will be the "home" team.
    • In the event of a tie for most points, the tiebreaker will be (in order): total wins, head-to-head; goal differential (goals for - goals against), fewest penalty minutes, coin flip.
    • If the championship game is tied at the end of regulation play, there will be a 5 minute 4-on-4 overtime period. If the game is still tied, the game will go to a shootout. 3 players from each team will be chosed to do the shootout, starting at center ice. "Visitor" will shoot first. The player may not start with the puck until the whistle is blown; the goalie may not exit the crease until the player touches the puck. The team with the most goals after the 3 player shootout will be declared the winner. If, after the 3 shooters for each team have gone, the game is still tied, it will be a sudden death shootout, with each team taking a shot until there is a winner. No player may be a repeat shooter until all players on that team have shot.
Players/Rosters/Equipment:
  • All players must be 18 years of age or older and must be registered with USA Hockey for the 2011-12 season as of October 21, 2011.
  • No player may play in more than one division.
  • All teams must have home (light) and away (dark) jerseys with permanently affixed, unique numbers.
  • All players are required to follow USA Hockey equipment recommendations for adult players.
  • Rosters must be received by and will be frozen October 20. No changes may be made after that date. Rosters must include players' names, jersey numbers, USAH numbers & highest level played.
  • Referees and/or linesmen who are working games in the tournament are not permitted to play for any team in the divisions that they are officiating.
Division dexcription & guidelines:
  • Iron division: C level (competitive)
    • Team is comprised primarily of intermediate level players.
    • These players have developed and are comfortable with their skills, have a solid concept of the flow and strategy of the game, and have the athleticism to be in a competitive environment.
    • These players may have played organized roller or ice hockey as a youth (but no college, juniors higher than Junior C, or pro roller or ice hockey).
  • Rust division: D level (novice/beginner)
    • Team is comprised primarily of beginner/novice level players.
    • These players are still developing skating and/or stickhandling skills, have not developed speed and/or complete control of their edges and stride, and are still learning the strategy of the game.
    • A few of these players may have some organized youth experience, but are predominantly beginners with less than 5 years of playing experience as an adult.
    • A few (3-4) players on the team may have more than 5 years of playing experience as an adult.
  • These are guidelines to choosing a division. You are advised to place your team based on the experience of your strongest players as opposed to your weakest players.
  • The tournament director reserves the right to place teams in the proper division.
  • If it is determined by the tournament directors at any point during the preliminary round games that a team in the Rust Division as a whole are far above their competition, that team will be permitted to play the 4 game guarantee, but will receive a 1-0 forfeit loss for the round-robin games and will not proceed to the championship game.
Playing rules: Games are played by USA Hockey rules, with the following modifications/specifics:
  • Body checking is NOT permitted.
  • Slap shots are allowed at all levels.
  • Two line passes are allowed.
  • The tag-up rule will be used for offsides.
  • Fighting will not be tolerated and will result in expulsion from the tournament, and will be excluded from the next tournament.
  • Minor penalties are assessed as 2 minutes. Four minor penalties to one player in any one game results in an automatic game ejection for the remainder of the current game.
  • Major penalties are assessed as 5 minutes. Intent-to-injure may carry a game ejection.
  • Mercy Rule: if the goal differential is 6 or greater, run time shall be instituted. If at any time during the game the differential goes back under 6 goals, stop time shall be reinstated. Stop time will also be reinstated for the last minute of the game regardless of score.
