Summer Blast Tournament, May 26-27, 2007 in Richardson, TX

The Rusty Babes, Little Rock's first womens team, placed third in the Novice division at the annual Summer Blast tournament held May 26/27 in Richardson, TX. The team finished with a 2-2 record posting their first ever victory with a 2-0 win over the Dallas Chicks With Sticks to take third place in the round-robin stage and following up to beat the same team 3-0 in the consolation final.

In the opener, the Babes went down 1-0 to the Houston Brew as a goal midway through the third period was enough to decide a hotly contested game. The Babe's guest goalie Grace made several spectacular saves to give the Babes a fighting chance, but they were unable to tie the game despite applying some late pressure.

In the second game, the Babes got an unlucky break when a referee was unable to move out of the play and held the puck in the zone allowing the Bucktooth Angry Dolphins in to break in for an early score. The team hardly had time to regroup before the Dolphins made it 2-0. However, Amy Morrow scored a great individual goal breaking through the defence and beating the goalie low to her right to pull the Babes back within a goal. The Babes had some great scoring chances but despite applying late pressure after pulling the goalie in the dying seconds they were unable to tie the game.

The Babes first ever win came in the final game of round-robin play with Amy Morrow opening the scoring in the early stages of the third period with a low shot from the hashmarks. Susie Walter had several great scoring chances and was unlucky not to score but one of her shots was not covered cleanly by the Dallas goalie giving Vanessa Bethell the chance to tuck home the rebound to set the 2-0 scoreline.

In the consolation final Amy Morrow found the net twice to set the Babes on their way, before Victoria Love broke though to make it 3-0. After the final whistle sounded, Jo-Ann Goldman crashed the net to poke home a loose puck in the crease.
